About our classes
レッスンについて
At our studio, you can choose your favorite piece of white porcelain (finished, unglazed white ceramic ware) and create a completely original piece that is uniquely yours.
Using specialized porcelain paints made from mineral pigments, you will paint directly onto the white porcelain. The piece is then fired at approximately 800°C (1,472°F), transforming your design into a one-of-a-kind work of art. This traditional technique, known as porcelain painting (overglaze decoration), has been passed down as a form of traditional craftsmanship in various parts of the world for centuries.
Pieces created with your own hands can become more than simply beautiful objects. They can nurture your sense of beauty and creativity while also being used in everyday life at your dining table. As you share meals and conversations with family and friends, these one-of-a-kind pieces can become cherished works of art, carrying special memories that grow with every use.

Choose your porcelain
Pick a plate, cup, plaque or other white piece to suit what you want to paint.

Paint
Paint directly onto the porcelain with specialized mineral-pigment paints.

Fire
The piece is fired at about 800°C, fusing the paint to the glaze.

Take it home
Your finished piece is ready to use at the table.

In addition to learning classical techniques, students can also create their own original designs using photographs and sketches as references. Subjects can include animals, landscapes, people, and much more. By mastering the art of painting on the smooth surface of porcelain, you can greatly expand your creative possibilities and develop your own unique style.

Tsukiko Otsuka大塚月子

With a desire to “serve guests with cakes I have made myself, presented on tableware I have decorated myself,” she began studying porcelain painting.
She was selected as an instructor at the porcelain painting school Harajuku Togasha, where she taught for many years. Later, her son, Yoshiaki Otsuka, also became an instructor at the school.
Today, she co-directs lunaporcelain Group with her son and runs classes in Tama-Plaza and Futako-Tamagawa, sharing the beauty and enjoyment of porcelain painting with students.
Yoshiaki Otsuka大塚吉朗

Influenced by his mother, Tsukiko Otsuka, he was introduced to porcelain painting at an early age. At the age of 18, he began studying porcelain painting seriously at Harajuku Togasha.
He was later selected as an instructor at the school, where he gained extensive teaching experience. After leaving the school, he founded lunaporcelain Group together with his mother.
He currently directs the Futako-Tamagawa Studio and also teaches at Ginza Soleil. In addition, he conducts porcelain painting demonstrations and workshops at department stores, exhibitions, and various events throughout Japan.
